Re: [RC] "ask the mechanic" (was tire pressures) - Truman PrevattI've seen the "oil change interval" in cars but I doubt if there is that much in trucks especially diesel trucks. If all else fails - find out what the engine manufacturer's recommendations are, i.e. Cummins for Dodge, International for Ford, etc. A lot also has to do with the oil capacity of the engine. An engine that holds 12 gallons can go a lot longer than one that holds 12 quarts. However, at the end of the day, using the best oil possible and changing it at frequent intervals is the best choice.Truman Sisu West Ranch wrote: The only problem with following the manufacturer's recommendations is that they have a financial incentive in being able to advertise that they have a longer oil change interval. They also know that if the "average" owner does not have a problem before he trades in the vehicle he will be happy. If on the other hand if you desire to have your vehicle last twice as long as the average owner, you may need to be more careful about the oil change interval. -- “The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.” Friedrich Nietzsche =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
