Re: [RC] bett pulp pellet question - k s swigart

From: Terry Banister ebeyrider@xxxxxxxxxxx

How much "cheaper"? It's same cost per bag here.

The pellets come in a 50# bag, not 40, so, assuming the same cost per bag, that
would be 20% cheaper

Less space for storage???? A 40-lb bag is a 40-lb bag.

A?50# bag of pellets is smaller (cubic inches-wise) than a 40# bag of shreds.?
Don't ask me exactly how much smaller, cubic inches-wise...but the bag for
pellets is pretty much the same length, and about 6"-8" less wide.? I have a
metal trash can (40 gallon I think, but I wouldn't swear to it) that I can fit
3 50# bags of pellets in with a bit of room to spare.? I can only get 2 40#
bags of the shredded stuff in it.

Why would you have mold?

_I_?have had?the shredded stuff come from the feed store moldy.? Beet pulp is
pretty prone to mold.

?If it is stored in a dry place,

Which is possible if you live in the desert, but if you live in a place with
any humidity, the only "dry place" is something that is hermetically sealed.

?and you only buy enough for a month or two,

Whereas, if I buy the pellets, I can store it for ages (like months or possibly
even a year), so I can save myself multiple trips to the feed store...and thus
save gas money too :).

?why would there be mold that pellets would not also have? I have
?never had mold in 9 years (unless you leave it sealed in the bag
?in the car in the summertime with no windows open for more than
?a couple of days).

I can do this with the pellets without them growing mold.? I have been known to
leave a bag or two of beet pulp pellets in the trunk of my car for more than "a
couple of days' and even in the summer time.

But I will be honest with you....mostly I buy pellets because they are
significantly cheaper.? I am a cheapskate.
