Re: [RC] AZ - New, Fast-Evolving Rabies Virus Found - desertrydr1Along the same lines is this thought: Skunks and raccoons may be able to spread within family groups because they groom each other, at least when the babies are young. If the saliva has a high virus load, it's not impossible that there may be microscopic breaks in the skin, rather than some other type of contact like airborn or fecal/oral spread.jeri -----Original Message----- From: Sisu West Ranch <ranch@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: Elizabeth Walker <bwalker2@xxxxxxx>; Ridecamp <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Fri, 8 May 2009 4:23 pm Subject: Re: [RC] AZ - New, Fast-Evolving Rabies Virus Found "...
skunks (and maybe foxes) *without* a bite or scratch - that it can be passed by "social contact", like the flu. ..." Information I have always beleived in the past is that there is very high numbers of the virus in the siliva of infected animals, as a result there does not need a visible scratch.
