RE: [RC] Another question on canter leads - EnduroGalWell, then, how often DO you want to change? There's got to be a happy medium somewhere, and sounds like there are problems with changing too much OR changing too little. Is there any kind of "rule of thumb" out there? -----Original Message----- From: ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of rides2far@xxxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, November 18, 2009 2:57 PM To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [RC] Another question on canter leads As an example, for those of you who have or are going to canter substantial portions of a ride like Git R Done where there is no slope to speak of, few turns, and consistent footing, I am interested to know how often and how you change leads.kat Orange County, Calif. Can't tell you on canter, but on the diagonal changes, Josie had taken up the habit of changing every six beats after a prominent rider told her she did. When she rode Valarie's horse in competition she asked if that was OK and Val said, "You don't want to change that often because changing diagonals affects the horse's breathing rhythm and it has to readjust too often".
