Can't tell you on canter, but on the diagonal changes, Josie had taken up the habit of changing every six beats after a prominent rider told her she did. When she rode Valarie's horse in competition she asked if that was OK and Val said, "You don't want to change that often because changing diagonals affects the horse's breathing rhythm and it has to readjust too often".
