Re: [RC] Desperate Times for Horse Owners and for Horses - Barbara McCrary
It's not so much a trash dump for our indulgences as it
is a "trash dump" (if you wish to call it such) for the massive overpopulation
of wild horses who have no restrictions on their breeding, and also a place to
send our unneeded domestic ones. Not all people in this country are
rampant over-breeders of horses, but there are poor quality ones
and ones that people cannot, in this economy, afford to feed. To have
them euthanized creates an additional cost - to pay the vet, to hire the
tallow works to come and remove the body. In some places, you can't even
get the tallow works to come and remove the body. All this is costing the
already financially-stressed horse owner further expenses. There are the
tens of thousands of wild horses that no one wants to, or cannot afford to,
adopt.
BLM is keeping these horses in large pens, feeding them
at great cost to the government (which is supported by our tax dollars) and
hiring people to take care of them. Our economy is in serious trouble and
what would you suggest we, collectively, do about the massive cost of taking
care of unneeded horses - our own, or the excess BLM horses?

Horse Owners and for Horses
What I am saying is that if any horse owners are going to advocate for
the return of slaughter, then at the very least, 1) they need to acknowledge
it for what it is: a trash dump for
our indulgences
