RE: [RC] FW: Thought you might find this interesting - Terry Banister/Carrie again - Kitley, Carrie E Civ USAF AFSPC 30 MDSS/SGSLFActually, I've always wondered why certain bits, bridles, saddles or accessories were either required or not allowed in specific venues and disciplines as well. Aren't they supposed to be judging on the training and discipline of the horse and rider as a unit and not their "outerwear?" Or are they judging on appearances and uniformity only? Thus, why would a bit or bitless matter? Wouldn't it be the same thing to require that a rider must have blue eyes in order to ride in a Parke Horse competition? What's the point? Western Pleasure classes use bosals, right? Let me also clarify, that I have never ventured into the show arena in any way. I'm strictly a trail/distance rider so . . . please pardon my ignorance. But I am curious. ~C and decide if the bridle he sells is something that should be allowed in all disciplines Why should they not be "allowed."?? Those who still "need" to use a bit would still be allowed to continue using them. Again, the point is missed. The demonstration just proved that a bit is not "needed" to perform those disciplines, and should not be "forced" on those who want to compete without a bit. FGS, why could they not be "allowed" and why would the innept trainers/people who cannot control their horses without the use of bit have the right to dictate who is "allowed" to compete against them and what equipment must be used? Pressure and pain are two different things up to a point. The narrower the nose band on a bitless, the more chance for pain. Horse temperment and training along with rider skill determine the difference. Dr. Cook is just the one who took the time to organize a demonstration to make the point that bits are unnecessary in the Show Ring, and should not be forced upon those who can perform just as well/better without them. (both full of many rules, regulations, and tradition Yes, and they are oudated and unnecessary. That is the point! Clever guy, eh? Gee, since it was video taped, I wonder if those videos are available on YouTube or such and decide if the bridle he sells is something that should be allowed in all disciplines such as ridden dressage shows, or carriage driving.
