This is another example of how international, FEI sanctioned, competition has evolved into an activity completely different than AERC endurance riding as historically developed and practiced by the amateur horse owners in North America.
It is an object lesson as to why we, the members of the AERC, would be well served by ceasing to support, as an ORGANIZATION international competition.*
Oh, for goodness' sake. It's nothing to do with the sport of endurance or the FEI. It's everything to do with being kind to your horse when it's dehydrated. So, not "pre-hydrated" ?(before competition) but post-hydrated (after travel).?
