The best briefing "presentation" I ever saw was at a
NATRC ride, where Jim and Lin Ward were putting on their first ride, the "Love
of Horses" ride, last year. It was hilarious and would have held
everyone's attention anyway, because Jim is such a hoot, truly a natural
clown. He held a 3 ft x 3 ft flip chart, and Lin had a "pointer" -- they
had the trail enlarged on that chart, and went into a detailed (much more than
really necessary, but it was great!) description of the trail, water stops,
everything. If at any time the 'audience' lost attention, Jim would bring
them back to attention. He tolerated no noise. I loved that, being a
bit hard of hearing these days...
Ultimately, the RM has the control -- stand up there, guys
and gals, and demand attention. Believe me, all of us who are struggling
to hear your every word will greatly appreciate your efforts, and give you a
standing ovation, I'd bet.
And, you'd have less frustration in answering questions
you've already answered. Just MHO.
<< I applaud your willingness to bring this
to the fore. It happens over and over at NATRC rides, too. Not
only during awards but during Ride Briefings. >>
