RE: [RC] Remote areas and hay delivery - Zephyr Arabians--- heidi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: Even paying a trucker or hauling it ourselves, it is cheaper here than it is in most urban areas--again, because we are closer to the sources. You're lucky. :p We moved a little over a year ago from dense So Cal to less-dense SW WA. And the hay situation has been the biggest bummer about the move (well, that and satellite internet instead of DSL or cable <whine>). We don't live remote mileage-wise. But, we live on top of a hill with a road that big trucks can't negotiate. We also don't have a storage area for large loads of hay. Nor will any of the local sources (ie. feed stores) deliver to us, as we're "too far" and our road is a potential problem even if they would. So, we have to pick it up by the ton ourselves in our pickup truck. And, because we buy only in ton quantities, and buy the hay that comes from the other side of the mountains (stuff on this side isn't worth buying), we pay nearly the same prices as we paid in So Cal. They're also ~100lb bales, just like So Cal, so I'm almost useless in moving them around. At least in So Cal it was delivered. :p The only improvement hay-wise vs So Cal is that in spring/summer we barely need to feed any at all since the grass is so lovely. ~Nicole Zephyr Arabians http://www.zephyrarabians.com KattWmn Web Design http://www.kattwmn.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
