Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] pics of my favorite training hill - Barbara McCrary
We live on central coast California, about
60 miles south of San Francisco, and within view of the ocean. Eric's
training hill would be closer to San Francisco....south of the city on the SF
peninsula. There's a pretty good little range of mountains south of SF,
some of it in wilderness parks, some of it just too wild to be anything but
natural.
Unfortunately, the grass around here doesn't
have a lot of nutrition when it goes brown. Our cows dine on it all
summer, but by October, there's little nutrition left and we have to start
feeding out hay until the winter rains bring on the grass. The green grass
has the greatest fattening power in late April, May, and early June. It's
just starting to come on strong now and the cattle are starting to put on
weight. The calves will grow like weeds from now until market time, about
July 1.
Since I live in the vicinity of Eric's
training hill, I can answer that no, it isn't heat and humidity that makes
the grass green, but winter rains (of which we have had a LOT this
year.) It may get warm on occasions, but not like in some
places. And in summer, this grass will be brown. And, of course,
we do have summer fogs from the Pacific Ocean, but that just makes the
weather cool...
ah ha, so you are on the west coast somewhere!!! the mystery is closing
in, it sure is pretty... so is this Washington state??? Oregon, or Northern
California...
nothing wrong with brown grass, that is what hay is right???
