Re: [RC] truck campers and long bed vs short bed trucks. - Joe LongOn Mon, 17 Oct 2005 15:10:16 -0600, "Sisu West Ranch" <ranch@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: You will be much happier with an 8 ft bed. Extensions for towing are a royal pain. I don't agree with this advice. I bought a short-bed to keep overall length down (especially with a club cab), and it still is difficult to park in many commercial lots and garages. I'd hate having another foot and a half to deal with. Towing is a breeze, I just made sure that my gooseneck trailer had a slight "bevel" shape (a rounded cap works even better) so that I don't have to worry about breaking my rear window. Most of them do these days. Only the huge, square-nosed jobs need an eight-foot bed. My first real truck was nicknamed the "Balrog," it was a crewcab one-ton with an eight-foot bed and duallies. This time I wanted something smaller that would still do a first-rate job of towing a gooseneck w/camper, and the "club cab" short-bed 3/4 ton has been perfect for me. Of course, if you need to do a lot of cargo hauling with it, then the long bed would be your best bet. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
