[RC] The Cost to Riders - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Laurie Underwood laurieunderwood@xxxxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== Our training grounds are 45 minutes away. It takes about 1/4 of a tank of gas per trip, 35 gallon tank on the truck and since the truck is gasoline and not diesel, we generally use premium grade when hauling. The math isn't pretty. I actually took some extra time off around Labor Day with plans to put in some extra miles on the horse, but the current cost of gas made me rethink that plan. I'll just work on landscaping the yard instead. Georgia's Governor, Sonny Perdue, just announced that Georgia would not impose a gasoline tax starting at midnight tonight and lasting through the month of September. That's an extra 15 cents/gallon which he "hopes" will be passed along as savings to the consumer. We shall see. He has also asked that Georgians be extra conservative in their usage of gas. Between the dog's vet bills and the current gas prices, I'd say a large crimp has been put into my ride year. All of that said ... I consider myself damned lucky. My family and I are safe, our critters are safe, we have food, shelter, access to a shower and toilet, and the luxury of air conditioning on a hot day. Much as I hate not being able to ride as much as I'd like, things could be a whole lot worse. Watching the coverage of Katrina puts things in a different perspective.
