[RC] re: Something to think about - Kristi SchaafI think lots of those people in New Orleans already were IN survival mode way before Katrina. Those living in poverty or homeless already knew all about sheer survival. So, for those of us on the outside saying that they should have been 'prepared', how DO people in New Orleans prepare for something like this? (other than not living there in the first place!) The only thing I can think of is to buy a boat and have it tied to your roof (that is, if you actually live in a house). And, you know, at first I couldn't understand how anyone could ignore warnings to leave the city. Then I thought of the times that the tornado sirens have gone off three times in three days, and we haven't gone to the basement every single time....same thing really....and, I compare those who couldn't leave (because they didn't have access to transportation) to those here in the midwest who don't have a basement. Both types just hunker down and hope for the best. I'm a 'take care of yourself' type of person, but Katrina has brought out a compassion and sorrow in me for mankind that I thought I had reserved for helpless animals. Kristi Life's a journey, so enjoy the ride (and try not to fall off) ____________________________________________________ Start your day with Yahoo! - make it your home page http://www.yahoo.com/r/hs =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
