There are a few isolated areas where there are still virgin stands of eastern hardwood forest. When you see it you will know it. The difference is incredible. However, the second growth forest are nothing to sneeze at.If you give it long enough with out mowing, bushhoging and cutting - the east would be all forest. You cut down a redwood tree and two months later the sprouts are already a foot high. Cut one tree and several will grow in its place. Of course, if one demands instant results, that doesn't happen, as it takes half a century to grow another BIG redwood, but Nature takes care of all this.
