It's located at the foot of the Cherohala SkyWay...Highway 129..the famous "Tail of the Dragon". http://www.seeamerica.org/byways/html/byways_pages/NCcherohala.html http://www.main.nc.us/graham/hiking/joycekil.html "I think I shall never see, a poem as lovely as a tree".... Joyce Kilmer was also an American Hero. In WWI, he was awarded the French Croix de Guerre for bravery. http://oldpoetry.com/authors/Alfred%20Joyce%20Kilmer Jim, Sun of Dimanche+, and Mahada Magic Richard T. What you see is second growth. There are a few isolated areas where there are still virgin stands of eastern hardwood forest. When you see it you will know it. The difference is incredible. However, the second growth forest are nothing to sneeze at. If you give it long enough with out mowing, bushhoging and cutting - the east would be all forest.
