Re: [RC] did AHA give in or did they have no choice - Sisu West Ranch"...Herein lies the fallacy of your statement. Good Arabs do not win in the show ring. Extremes win in the show ring..." Actually, Heidi, I don't think we are far apart on this one. My comments relating to show people "not seeing changes" did not intend to carry a judgement relating to the "functional goodness" of current show winners. I tried to imply that the look of show winners will not change. If imports of previously non-registerable horses look like other show winners they will win, otherwise they will not. There lies the base problem---> does one define a "good" example of a breed as one that wins in the show ring or by some other criteria such as having an outstanding endurance record? You and I are always looking at performance. When I was a cowboy wannabe, I owned a QH. Sketer's whole top side was speed QH. While he had excellent conformation, from a functional standpoint, he would never have won in the halter ring. His feet were to big, and he was to slender. He never even learned how to hold his nose 6" from the ground. On the other hand he was never beaten in a short race, and successfully competed in CTR and endurance. If I were able to run the world, I would not allow the judged appearance showing of horses, (or dogs, for that matter.) until the animal was mature and had accumulated a bunch of true performance points.
