As far as the "giving in" part, I suspect (and this is only my assumption, that's all) that the new AHA president had something to do with it. He seems to want to resolve all this stuff (lawsuits) in order to stop draining the $$$ out of the registry.

Minor clarification - to stop draining $$ out of AHA, which is responsible in part for many of the Registry's expenses post-merger, which is an entirely OTHER issue.


As far as "caving" to save money, a law suit like this can literally put an organization like AHA out of business financially. I am not condoning the decision, I am just stating that it wasn't a matter of spending some money, it was a matter of AHA viability.
