Re: [RC] flicka and endurance<<<<<<why some of us got into endurance - mjwest02I was named after my HORSE crazy Aunt, who would tell me of the adventures when horses would jump off of a high platform into water - which she claimed she had done herself -(Wild Hearts Can't be Broken....watch that one!) and tell about swimming in the river with her farm horses hanging onto their tails.
I was a city girl and also WISHED for a horse every Christmas. To my dismay, none ever appeared in our attached garage, which I thought would have made a cozy barn. I had no friends with horses and rode at the local rental stables - in my 7th grade year the local stable, after renting a horse for the hour, would give raffle tickets to WIN a horse/pony. My dream came true when on a particular Easter Sunday, after telling my mother that I WOULD WIN the pony,I walked in the door explaining that I really DID own a pony! I thought dad could haul her in his pickup and we could keep her in our fenced in back yard! -NOT- She was sold because I was too big for her (my feet were 3" off the ground!)
-- I FINALLY GOT MY OWN HORSE (at age 45). In these last 5 years I have fallen deeper in love with the magic, beauty, intelligence and skills of my mare. She has taught me so much - and as was mentioned with the bareback, no bit, no bridle rider - the PARELLI NH has been a blessing in our life. I hunger to learn more - that is why this site and all your input is great for me!!
...only HORSE people understand...

I think Horse was the first word I learned to say. I'm sure there's an H-gene! My parents gave up asking me what I wanted for my birthday or for Christmas. The answer was always the same.
Imagine my reaction when I came home from school and there was a gorgeous pony in my back yard. I was sure God Himself had delivered this pony to me. Alas, it had wandered away from the last farm in our neighborhood... an area that was being eaten up with subdivisions.
Years later, when i was 13, my for real first horse was in my back yard when I got home from school. She looked just like Little Joe Cartwright's pinto.
