Re: [RC] More Daylight to ride! - Truman PrevattBack during the mid 70's we went to prolonged Day Savings Time to save energy cost. This was in response to the Arab oil embargo - which was in response to the US support of Israel in the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. We had long gas lines and were only allowed to buy fuel on certain days keyed to our license plate numbers. The Government has some pretty reliable statistics on energy savings associated with DST collected during that time. One of the big reasons we went off because many were concerned about children having to go to school in the dark - safety associated with catching a school bus in the dark. The other thing that will save gas is a 55 mph speed limit nationwide - we had that too. I forget the numbers I saw associated with energy savings per winter month associated with DST, but they were significant.
