[RC] UAE Culture - jbassHiedi and Catfish seem to think that this should be acceptable because it is part of their culture. It may have been at one time but not any more.The UAE is not some run of the mill third world country. They are a very progressive country who wants to be accepted by the west. The UAE has changed over the last thirty years or so. They are into International Business & Banking, the Arts, Conventions, Trade Shows, Tourism, huge sporting events that include horse racing, golf, tennis and others. The list goes on what they are promoting. Do these things sound familar? Sure, we've been doing all of this for years and years. It's part of our culture. They have changed and need to change some of their old habits or they will never accepted by the west. This is a black eye to them and they are not liking it. They will get the message if our National Team doesn't show up for the WEG. They should not go. The AERC needs to make a stand. Someone has to make that first move of non-acceptance. There are a lot of victims. Firstly the enslaved children, maybe as many as 40,000. The BOD of the AERC are victims because they have to deal with this. The National Team are victims because they have worked and trained for this. If they do go, I wonder how they could enjoy the moment thinking about what is going on down the road. I can't imagine sitting at a lavish party knowing children are starving just a mile away. The AERC membership are victims. People are going to take sides and lose friendships over this. None of this would be necessary if they would just abide by their own laws. MAKE THEM A VICTIM.
