Re: [RC] Electronic Communication on Trail? - heidiAs I said before, it just never occurred to me that e communication would or could be used in such a manner as to be considered cheating. I can see where it might occur. But if it ain't against the rules, I am all for using it if I want to....it would provide a great measure of security for myself and I'd love to see my sister have one, too So far, neither of us have ever had a hypoglycemic reaction on trail (we are very careful about eating while riding during a ride) but I, for one, have had some accidents, one in particular, where it would have been quite nice if not much safer (for me anyway) for ride management or my crew to know exactly where I was on the trail so they could come and get me. So, my "advocacy" of e communication is nothing more than that. Well, as others have pointed out, there is nothing in the rules that says that you can't CARRY a cell phone. But personally, I'd be shy of using one other than for emergencies (and I fully support them being available for same), especially if I were a front runner in a high-profile competition, just because the appearance of impropriety taints one's success as often as actual impropriety does.
