Re: [RC] Rain Rot Treatment - Jim Holland
Dang, I can answer this....EVERYTHING grows on Sunny. Rain Rot is at
least a yearly occurance. The organism that causes this is present on
horses normally...when it gets encysted in the skin is when it causes
problems. Here is a place for a good quick synopsis:

First pick off the scabs....and STAY ON IT...everyday. Scratching them
off may be a little painful for the horse, but you MUST persist. The
organism dies in the presence of air. Don't let it get heavy. If it
does, it's much harder and you'll have to soften the scabs with
something like vaseline covered with saran wrap.
I've tried everything. The BEST thing I've found that just knocks it
out is to wash him with Selsun Blue shampooa after you get all the scabs
off....any grocery store...used for dandruff. You can also use Betadine
Surgical Scrub, but that doesn't seem to have the residual effect of
Selsun Blue. Be sure to rise thoroughly.
Jim, Sun of Dimanche (who currently is going though his fall Rain
Rot...AND White Line) and Mahada Magic. (Who is such a pig NOTHING grows
on him)
