Re: [RC] Rain Rot Treatment - C. Eyler
My gelding used to get some rain rot, and a local track supplier recommended
a medicated shampoo called Equitaine. Worked great.
But, while a discussion about rain rot was raging on Ridecamp, Heidi Smith
suggested that some horses who are deficient in selenium seem to be more
susceptible to rain rot. Turns out our soil is very selenium deficient
here. Started supplementing with SeE (my gelding is tested every 12-18
months to make sure the dosage is right), and he's had no rain rot since.
My own vet thinks that it's the vitamin E that's making the difference.
Either way, no more painful scabs to pick off.
