Where do you live and when did you start seeing this stuff appear ?
I
have a horse who has a very weak immune system with skin and mucus
membrane afflictions. Every fall since we moved from Fl to IL when the temps
at night start dipping and the dew is heavy, he acquires fungal infection from
the grass and dew combination with his warm legs and longer hair. Last year I
clipped him in mid Sept and he missed having the gunk all over his lower legs.
Did the same thing this year and no problems either.
This
prevention works. You don't want to have to treat this stuff because it's time
and work intensive. What I did the first year is I soaked all the
scabs with warm soapy (antibacterial dish soap is cheapest) and then scraped
the scabs off with my fingernails and a washcloth. The key is really
prevention. Clip the lower legs mis Sept and you won't have the problem
again.
Susan
We have a horse with rain rot. What are some of
the treatments for this condition?
How long will it take to go away? Is this a
fungal infection or something else? Hoping
for a simple treatment.
Thanks
Ed
