Another consideration is that the vets at MW rides want to see the horse one
hour after the ride to check for any late developing problems. Most riders
trot for locomotion completion as soon as they get in, just in case a hitch
develops in the git-a-long while standing around (a real possibility at
early and late season rides) and go back for pulse and the rest at an hour.
If the 30 min pulse were to be enforced, this would mean one more trip to
the vet. A bother for the vet, the rider and the horse. Most horses resent
being dragged away from their hay after 50 miles.
