Fw: [RC] Rough trot--Kristi - Adele H

Sorry about the duplication...I should have sent this through the group before..

Hi Kristi,

I am new to the group and just reading up everything but I am not new to
trailriding.....and I remember a similar situation.

That said...I had a beautiful little polish Arab years ago. We bought him
fully trained with this absolutely gorgeous merry-go-round rocking horse
canter...and we bought him to do Competitive Trail.

He always had great P&R recoveries, never got excited, always assumed he was
going at least 25 miles everytime we took him out..reserved himself....so far
so good.....except it felt like he was pounding through your body when he
started to move out......his trot could be teeth-jarring......(I'll never
forget a 50 miler/2 day ride on the Vermont dirt roads raining both days!)

We were fortunate enough to run into a local farrier ON horseback...which we
don't see too often around here.... I mentioned to him how rough the trot was
and he proceeded to ride along side and behind to see how the horse was
going... He determined that the feet were cut and angled wrong, good for many
horses, but not him because of the angle of his pastern.

We asked him to work on the horse which took about two/three shoeings...I seem
to remember him wanting the toe to grow out longer, the back shorter....(this
was some time ago). It did take the horse a bit to get used to the change and
he would clip a bit in the beginning...but it did work out much better although
he was never as smooth as our other two..but very bearable........

So maybe that could be an option to check out?

Adele
