I found three things that helped, the first being quite a bit of time spent doing dressage exercises in which a smooth working trot was gradually opened up to a faster speed. This helped both of us. The second thing that helped was the discovery that at some speed between trot and canter she would switch into a weird sort of single foot gait that was faster than a trot, slower than a gallop and impossible to post to. THAT gait was lovely. The third, and most important thing, was that I just got used to her because she's a wonderful mare.
