Aww come on, help me out here, I'm dead serious.  I understand there's a
major difference in how vet checks are run in the west....that management
tends to put out all sorts of water, bran and hay which everyone
shares....am I right?

Here in the Southeast, I've never seen management put out any food, but
they will have water for those with no crews.  *If* you put a bag of hay
in their truck, they'll deliver it to the check for you.  Every rider
tends to have their own area set up with hay, mash, water, etc. but
*without fail* the horses seem to prefer what's next door. 

 I've never had anyone say, "excuse me that's mine"...it's usually me
trying to pull Kaboot's nose out of it and they say, "LET HIM EAT! *my*
horse won't touch it...at which time I offer their horse anything in my
area.  Where would a solo rider come in on this exchange?
