One way to "accelerate" a horse's stride is to use cavelletti's. We
graduate to raised ones after a while and it is amazing how quick
they figure this all out. All this lowers the horse's body carriage
and allows him to lengthen his stride. I have found cavelletti's
especially helpful in downward transitions. We trot through, pick up
a canter around the arena, then come down to a trot a few strides
before the first bar, trot through, pick up the canter over and over.
. Has made a huge difference on the trail.
