Re: [RC] Beet pulp shortage - Barbara McCraryIf the sugar cane industry successfully convinces people that cane sugar is superior to beet sugar, as they are trying to do, then there may be more shortages of beet pulp. Is there any reason sugar beets are grown other than for sugar? Or are they grown just for beet pulp? I truly don't know. I always thought sugar was sugar, whether it was cane or beet. But advertising campaigns can do a lot of influencing. A thought to ponder, and if anyone knows the answer, I'm prepared to be educated.Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth Walker" <bwalker2@xxxxxxx> To: "Ridecamp" <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, January 30, 2009 1:13 PM Subject: Re: [RC] Beet pulp shortage I'm in SoCal, and have had no problems this year. I asked my feed supplier, and she said she hadn't heard of any shortage. She said that, because there is only one crop per year (harvested in July, I think she said), they have to estimate how much they will need locally, so they can export the remainder. If they guess wrong, you get shortages. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
