Kane, MDIn addition to rules for diagonals on right and left circles, my endurance mentor has taught me to post on the uphill diagonal and the outside of turns in the trail. Wrt hills, if you're traversing a hillside, it is more balanced for the horse to have us rise on the shoulder that's on the uphill side. Also, I have stopped jigging in more than one horse by posting the jig on the diagonal that they hate. We make the devil's bargain of them settling into a walk or working trot in exchange for my staying off their awkward side (or maybe it's -my- awkward side) for a while.
