No one can tell you with certainty where a single electron will be in a 
potential well, or a tunnel diode, etc.  However, with clear certainty 
one can say how "many" electrons will act in a potential well, tunnel 
diode, etc. If we couldn't you would not be sitting in front of your 
computer, the Internet would not exist, etc. The rules of "probability" 
govern just about everything seen in life - from the sub atomic world 
upward.

That doesn't mean we can say that your individual gray horse is going or 
not going to get a melanoma. However, such statements about the ensemble 
of gray horses and melanomas are valid. Such statements as "Gray horses 
are more prone to melanomas" or "Gray horses have a shorter life span 
than non-Gray horses" are statements about the ensemble of gray horses.
