Grass/alfalfa is about 3 times that amount here (central coast, Calif). So, on that note, what would cause such a major flux in price from one area to the next? Aren't seed costs, ag production, etc. pretty much the same across the country? The gas prices are way down, so that's not it. Our hay here is roughly between $15 & $25 a bale. (unless it's straw) Carrie That is so true, and especially in agriculture. We've been blessed in this country with abundance in good land, resulting in inexpensive food, inexpensive agricultural products overall. That will not always be, with increased pressure on the available, arable land, with less irrigation water in the west, and more variable weather patterns. And the ever-present energy demands. It is amazing to me that hay, good grass hay, and grass/alfalfa hay, is still available to me at $4.50 and $5.00 a bale. That is such a great deal, all things considered, and I'm thankful.
