Re: [RC] feed prices...the rest of the story :) - Carla Richardson/Carrie - Kitley, Carrie E Civ USAF AFSPC 30 MDSS/SGSLFI have to heartily agree with you here, Carla! I can't imagine my life w/o my horses and I would probably pay pretty much whatever it takes to keep them happy. Shhhhhh, don't tell the farmers!! =) (but that doesn't mean I wouldn't complain about it once in awhile. Lol) ~Carrie Sometimes I think if I didn't own horses I could have been incredibly wealthy - ha! In terms of $$ anyway. Nah. I think I am wealthy, because I have my horses. Yesterday our hay guy delivered more hay to us, and said he would bring 200 more bales next weekend. There's nothing like a beautiful, big stack of hay to make me feel secure. <G> Carla Richardson Colorado On Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 9:59 AM, Cindy Collins <c_collins@xxxxxxx> wrote: Yes, sometimes we all need to stop and look at the "half full" glass. I can still buy gorgeous hay at $150 a ton (when I was paying $80 a ton just a couple of years ago) and I am more than happy to pay for it. Do I whine sometimes... sure...that's normal. However, one does need to get a grip occasionally and realize that most of the world thinks anyone who owns a horse is incredibly wealthy. We've been blessed in this country with abundance in good land, resulting in inexpensive food, inexpensive agricultural products overall. That will not always be, with increased pressure on the available, arable land, with less irrigation water in the west, and more variable weather patterns. And the ever-present energy demands. It is amazing to me that hay, good grass hay, and grass/alfalfa hay, is still available to me at $4.50 and $5.00 a bale. That is such a great deal, all things considered, and I'm thankful.
