RE: [RC] Early handling - Barbara Moultonearly handling long term memory experiment- The "Bonster" Bonnie 20 months old was partially imprint trained at birth ( I had bad hips and no way could I lift her up and hold her completely in my arms like I had wanted to because the risk of her squirming/freaking out and getting loose was too great but I did hold her in my lap and handle ears, legs ect. as advised in Dr. Miller's book. I left for my surgery on Dec.7 and returned on Jan 5th- as I am recovering I only go out to check on her and mom and give some treats over the gate and scratches. The nurse told me my wonderful doctor has had bad experiences with "horse people" patients not following his directions for rehab and I promised him I would wait until I felt solid and strong before resuming riding and training. This last week all hip precaution restrictions were lifted because the Xrays are great and as soon as I can move quick if needed and don't depend on a crutch at all ( down to 1 now)I will find out how much overall respect and which specific skills she retained through her month + vacation from handling.
