Re: [RC] Early handling/OT horses - Nancy Sturm

. And quite frankly, I'd rather deal with an UN-handled horse that has been in a herd situation

That certainly was our experience with an unbroke six year old Thoroughbred that had been turned out her entire life with a herd of mares on a big range near Burns, OR.

She was absolutely the easiest horse I ever started and trained.

In my younger days, my favorite hunter/jumper/dressage prospects always came from the track. They had excellent ground manners, hauled and loaded well, had experienced all kinds of noises and potentially scarey stuff. They had a good basic education under saddle too. I loved those off track TB's appendix quarter horses. We have an off-track Standardbred gelding here now. He is an absolute delight to handle, ride and drive.

Of course, there were ill-mannered individuals. I just didn't buy any.

Nancy
