RE: [RC] sad times posted from another board. - Pickering.Dovie - Rae CallawaySounds more to me that they're trying to offer euthanasia as an option to being dumped on a low end auction and suffering through a multi day food & water free truck ride to Mexico for slaughter. It's ending a life before it's time. Maybe I got the wrong impression from the original post, but that's how it sounded to me and since there is such a surplus of unwanted horses right now, they were proposing the option of euthanasia as an alternative to normal upkeep. However, it did say that those that qualified, would be adopted out, so in that sense, I hope they are a major success! -----Original Message----- From: Rebecca Fabiszak [mailto:ag47xau49@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, October 22, 2008 3:37 PM To: Kitley, Carrie E Civ USAF AFSPC 30 MDSS/SGSLF; ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [RC] sad times posted from another board. - Pickering.Dovie Having and loving these Most Gracious members of our family makes us responsible for their humane care. When their life has come to an end, too much pain, it is our responsibility to allow them a gracious end/release. I'd rather live in a tent than euthanize my animals. If they're in excruciating pain and are suffering, that's one thing . . . I know, I know!! Some situations warrant this type of action. :( Horse rescue offers low-cost euthanasia clinic Posted by HeyRady on 10/21/2008, 12:51 pm 69.104.54.68 This article was just released in The Horse.Com journal. It is wonderful that this group is making sure that horses that they feel can be adopted will be vs. all of them being put down. Horse Rescue Offers Low-Cost Euthanasia Clinic by: Pat Raia October 15 2008, Article # 12903 Print Email Republish Link RSS ShareThis NorCal Equine Rescue in Oroville, Calif., will offer a low-cost euthanasia clinic on Dec. 17 for owners who, due to economic or other reasons, are unable to care for their horses. Owners will be charged $25 for the euthanasia service, which will be performed by veterinarians. Clinic participation requires owners to sign a release allowing the rescue to retain and place potentially adoptable horses. Horses that prove to be unsuitable for adoption will be humanely euthanized through the rescue's Final Act of Kindness program. "The clinic is designed to provide financially strapped owners with an alternative to bringing their horses to auction where they may not sell, or may sell a very low price," said NorCal Co-Founder and Vice President Tawnee Preisner. The group plans to host similar events several times per year.
