Re: [RC] IV Fluids before the ride (was: Malaysia, etc.) - Elizabeth WalkerIf the horse is dehydrated on arrival at camp to the extent that rehydration via IV seems like a good idea, it would seem to me that the horse was too stressed by the trip to compete. So it seems like common sense - if you expect that kind of travel stress, you plan to arrive far enough in advance of the ride to allow the horse the recover.I do think something to provide a guideline as to how long prior to a ride IV fluids can be administered would be a good idea, though I would guess the "wait time" would be more on the order of the amount of time an average horse needs to recover from travel stress of that magnitude. Of course if it wasn't done a basecamp a rider could stop by a private barn and rehydrate prior to arriving at basecamp. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
