Re: [RC] Non-endurance Husbands - Betsy ThomasI don't ride alone on the long rides. Estimating my ETA is part of my learning process while I condition up my first horse, I guess I'll put it that way. I've always at least told someone at the barn where we were going, and now write it on a whiteboard too. I've been home significantly late twice in the last few months. Once we had a mishap and I was able to call and say "we're okay but will be home very very late" and the second time, was just plain old irresponsibility and way too much faith in my cellphone. Second time is what made me start planning the rides better so we can let him know when I'll be home. Husband was quite worried/upset about it, and I don't blame him. I ride some weird roadsides and scary places. Now it's quite fun, though, to be frantically trying to get back to the barn before curfew... Our trails have general names and landmarks, so when I write where I'm going, I write point to point to point, etc. That way, if I'm far beyond ETA, Lud knows where to start looking for me. Cell phones don't do well around here, either. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
