[RC] Questions about stirrup cages/tapaderos - Betsy Thomas

I recently switched from riding in an English saddle to a Specialized International. Didn't think until recently that my stirrup leathers are no longer attached with those safety-release stirrup bars, which I had always kept open on the English saddle.

Friend told me to get cowboy boots, that is the purpose of them since they are smooth-soled, pointed-toed, and most importantly slip off if they get hung up in the stirrup. But I am in love with my Ariat Terrain boots with the half-chaps. I, how to put it, am not a cowboy boot person <grin>.

So I am thinking of getting caged stirrups or tapaderos. Friend told me about these attachable tapadero thingies at http://www.positivelyriding.com/catalog/item/2364446/1812232.htm so that is another option I'm looking at. What are the advantages/ disadvantages of cages or taps? Would my foot have any chance of getting stuck in the gaps on the sides of the EZ-Ride caged stirrups? I wear a ladies size 7 boot.

Betsy
