Re: [RC] Bears on the trail - Truman PrevattSeveral years ago we were CO at a ride and went out to loosen up the horses. We went out and on the way back, the mare was in front of my wife and her friend. We come around a bend and there is a lot of thrashing in the brush ahead. I pulled the mare to a stop and we watched as a mother bare and two cubs came out of the brush about 50 meters in front of us. The mare stood there staring at them. The mama bear looked at her and didn't seem to have a problem and just crossed the trail - with the cubs behind. About that time the two Arabs gelding came around the corner. You would have thought their world had come to an end. The stalling, spinning, prancing was comical to watch. After the bear and cubs got into the brush on the other side of the trail and were a respectable distance away, the mare picked it up and we went on in - or tried to. I heard a scream from my wife about how her horse was not going to go. I had to turn around, go back and head the two Arab geldings past where the bear crossed. I suspect if I had not have gone back they might still be there. Sometimes it is better to ride mares. That is her trail darn it and she isn't going move for no stinkin' bear. -- "Mathematics may be defined as the subject in which we never know what we are talking about, nor whether what we are saying is true."
