Re: [RC] shin splints - rides2far@xxxxxxxxDoesn't Josie also play volleyball? I expect that before the treadmill. She plays everything...Volleyball (setter), basketball, (starting wing, sub at point)& softball (2nd base). Little people have to run a lot no matter what we play cause if you're not tall you'd better be quick. :-P She's started softball now and trying to use the treadmill not to lose what fitness she gained in basketball. There are other girls who have to get taped for splints but she's not one of them. I don't think what we get are *real* shin splints. Aren't shin splints more of a bone thing? The "tearing of the muscle on front of the leg" sounds more like it. It will be horrible in competition then you feel fine the next day. I get them more on slower rides. Not letting my feet roll over to the outside seems to help. Maybe the fact that Gunner is narrow has helped...but now 7 is very Kabootish & a thick little 14.2. Wrapping short legs around a wide barrel probably isn't the best way to avoid them. Still wondering...is that muscle down the front of your shin a muscle you can train and if treadmills irritate it...does that mean they're strengthening it?
