Re: [RC] shin splints - Truman PrevattI just looked it up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_splints Seems it is a term that refers to several conditions. What you tend to get in basketball and probably volleyball is the "tearing of the connective tissue." At least that is what the school MD told me in my basketball days. My senior year four of the six players that had most of the playing time on the basketball team had to get tapped before games and practices. Because of that I didn't have any hair on my lower legs for two years after I got out of high school ;-) . I also think the hardwood floor had a lot to do with it.I ran through college and they didn't bother me. There was no jumping, rapid turns etc. and the surface was softer. One year, however, I did have some problems when Purdue was installing a new indoor track and we had a board track (truly that was what it was fancy plywood). The board track aggravated the shin splints. When I first started riding endurance in the late 80's they came back - leads me to believe in the "tearing" theory and aggravation of the scar tissue. If my stirrups were the proper length - they didn't both me. If they weren't they did. The mare and the Jbird are both slab sided. I expect a wide horse would aggravate them even today. All I know is they hurt like the dickens. Truman rides2far@xxxxxxxx wrote: Doesn't Josie also play volleyball?
