Re: [RC] [RC] cat shot/horse shot - Quentin & Libby LlopI've kept sheep for over 30 years now. Early on an old timer gave me the following advice on dealing with dogs: Shoot, shovel and shut up. Laws in your state may vary, but here in N.Y. only the larger livestock is protected ie: you have the right to shoot a dog in your sheep or calves, but not in your chickens. When you have an attack the town assessor comes out to view the carnage and pays for the dead sheep out of a fund from dog license fees. If you have positive identification - a dead dog with a collar and tags and wool in his teeth- the town will add the price of the sheep to his owner's property tax bill, but they would rather not know. Maybe it's coincidence, but I haven't had a dog attack since invisible fencing became common.
