Re: [RC] [RC] Possible tick bites - Don HustonI assume you worm your horse, if so it does not keep the tick from biting but after drawing some blood the tick will withdraw and die or try again causing numerous little spots of sticky stuff and the hair pulls off. I rarely find the tick attached to my horse but often they are still near the sticky spot. The ticks can live in the blanket while it's stored all summer and then when you put it on during the winter they feast on your horse. Here in San Diego we have lots of deer ticks so several times a year I lay the blanket out and spray it real good on all sides with standard fly & tick spray and let it dry before using it. Under the mane and all down the tail are the major tick spots. Ticks can also transmit Lyme Disease to horses and people, do a Google search for lots of info. On small spots I do like you and just pull off the hair and sticky stuff but in the mane and tail I soak the sticky stuff with fly spray and remove it while wet. During real dry years my horse gets almost no ticks at all then we get a wet year like this one and he gets 10-15 every ride X;{At 07:49 AM 2/20/2007 Tuesday, you wrote: Yes, just as described however, shouldn't I find the host embedded at some time?
