RE: [RC] my mistake - heidi
Bingo, Angie. We work until we are blue in the face here to let
people know that it is ok to pull, it is the right thing to do to pull, it is in the horse's best interests to pull, etc. To castigate these people for a high pull rate is contradictory to that message.
These horses are pulled for the slightest offness, and that is a GOOD
thing. To these riders, the concept that one might be able to slow down and complete with a horse that is less than 100% is simply not in their lexicon. Are we "better" than they are because we do that? I'm not so sure. Additionally, if they can't be first or in the first few, they WANT to quit. Is that wrong?
Sorry, Lisa, this isn't about who has billions of dollars--Angie is
right on the mark that we shouldn't be pointing fingers at their pull rate. There are some other aspects of the sport the way they do it that I don't like, and I don't want to ride that way. And there might be other aspects where you could point to the money. But in the case of the pulls, the rich folks are accepting failure. Imagine that! I wish a few of our riders were as easy to convince that it is ok to pull!!!
