Keep in mind that if you are looking at the GCWR, many people misunderstand that is what they can tow, but it *includes* the weight of the truck. It's a Combined Weight Rating. So, if your SUV weighs 5300# or so (including gas, people, big dogs, gear...), it can tow 3000# or so, so you may be right in the ballpark with your lightweight BP. :)
Also Jennifer, as Truman have said, the longer the wheelbase, the safer it will handle.
