Didn't someone just mention that there are
requirements of some sort for newcomers in Australia?
Great start! So for those that are really interested in
solutions and really feel there is a problem put together a proposal. Take
a look at other countries, evaluate how their vision of endurance differs from
AERC's vision of endurance, adopt elements in their programs that will work
with AERC philosophy and meet the goal minimizing abuse with new riders,
policing new riders, educating new riders, etc., write up a proposal with the
stated goals as well as with how to implement strategies to attain those goals,
and present it to the board or the appropriate committee. From there the
membership can vote on the proposed changes.
It is a lot of work but if enough of you feel strongly that
this type of situation can be minimized, it is probably worth the effort.
At least one will know they tried to make a real effort to eliminate a problem
within the organization. Instead of letting this discussion deteriorate
into an LD issue, a failure of committees or individuals, or a blame
game, put that energy into what can become a "real" solution.
If enough AERC members feel like you....there may be some real change.
If all these posts on this topic are just a way to let off
steam just call it what it is. Otherwise we will be having the
same discussion down the road sometime.
