[RC] Extremely disappointed (was: Mariposa Protest, etc.) - k s swigart

Clifford Sies, in my opinion needs to be assaulted.

I know that my boyfriend just attended
his first ride as my crew and had he seen that, would
have not been as contolled as Mr McDonald. He would
have followed him through that hole in the fence until
Sies dropped from exhaustion. I think jabbing with
spurs and beating would have been appropriate after he
dropped.

I think the rider of that horse deserved to be pounded
and I don't feel a bit sorry for him. I can't help feel
Patrick should get a prize. He just did what we all
felt like doing.

I must confess that when I read the protest in this month's EN, I was
extremely disappointed by the light "slap on the wrist" that Patrick
McDonald got for his self-acknowledged blatant abuse and unsportsmanlike
conduct towards another rider and non-rider, and if _I_ had been on the
protest committee he'd have gotten disqualified from the ride (assuming
he finished it) and a suspension along with his "censure."

I am even more disappointed by the above statements by Ridecampers (but
now better understand the light punishment meted out by the P&G
committee).

It would appear that I am the only one who had drilled into me in my
childhood that bad behaviour on somebody else's part does not excuse bad
behaviour on my own part.

I am thoroughly disgusted (and this is one of those times that words
fail me so I am resorting to understatement) that anybody thinks it is
"okay" (or worthy of being given a prize) for assaulting (if he chased
him through a fence he assaulted him, whether he actually struck a blow
or not) and/or abusing ANYBODY at an endurance ride.

If that is the way that people really feel (with the outcome of this
protest, it appears to now be the "official" position of the AERC), it
is almost enough to turn me off the sport completely.

I really DON'T want to play with a whole bunch of people who think that
Patrick McDonald's behaviour was even close to acceptable, let alone
praiseworthy. I am disapointed by the number of people who seem to be
willing to condone abuse, just because it wasn't a horse that was
abused.
